Our Breeding Principles

Breeding wirehaired Vizslas is a job that we take very seriously. Our dogs are our family and as such we only breed to enhance the breed, striving to produce puppies who are well socialized and great examples of the breed. We want all our puppies to grow up, whether in show homes, pet homes, or active homes, to be healthy, both mentally and physically, as well as socially amazing dogs.

Placing a puppy into the right home is something we are very mindful of, matching the right puppy with the right family for their goals and lifestyle is very important, both for the quality of life for the puppy as well as its family. Because of this we like to ask lots of questions of our prospective parents, we want to make sure that you are matched with a puppy who will be your best friend for life!

When purchasing a puppy you are buying more than a pet, you are building a lifelong relationship with your breeder, and we are always there for you with any questions you may have, and we love to share in all of the fun times too. We want to see photos and watch the puppies mature along with you! Part of our contract notes that if anytime in the future you are unable to care for the dog, we ask that the dog come back to us. Puppies prices are between $1700 and $2300 depending on the type of dog you are looking for (conformation, hunting, pet). Puppies that go to conformation homes should expect to have a co-ownership on the registration, and puppies who will be pets will be registered with a Limited Registration from AKC which restricts breeding.

The health of our puppies is paramount, so we do not breed until the sire and dam have had Hips, eyes, elbows, HUU status tested and cleared. When we breed it is with the intention of improving the wirehaired vizsla breed in temperament, working ability, and structure, so we carefully screen pedigrees and backgrounds of our dogs to ensure that we are improving the characteristics of the dam and sire.

When you pick up your puppy you will be able to meet the dam, and in many cases the sire if he lives with us at Firmstone, if not we will have plenty of photos and videos for you to view. We screen our puppy families to make sure they understand the temperament of the Wirehaired Vizsla as well as what it is like to train and live with them. We accept deposits once the litter is born usually between 7 – 12 days and we know how many puppies of each sex we have available, deposits are $500. If for some reason, before you are able to pick up your puppy, your circumstance change, we will refund your deposit and add you to a list for our next breeding. When you contact us about a puppy, please let us know if you are looking for a performance puppy, show puppy, or pet puppy. If you can be flexible with a puppy’s gender that gives us a much better chance of pairing the right one with you. For puppies going to a pet home we prefer that they be altered, although not until maturity, usually around 24 months.

We do not dock tails or remove dewclaws for our litters. We follow suit with the country of origin for our breed Hungary, and most of Europe in their practices, as we have not seen a need to alter the dogs. Puppies will be ready to go to their new homes just after 8 weeks, and will be de-wormed, vaccinated for parvo and distemper, as well as microchipped. We will have a contract for you to sign when you pick up your new puppy, as well as a packet of information about what you will need to know to enjoy life to the fullest with your new puppy.

We do not ship puppies across America, you will need to come and pick up your puppy, in SW Virginia, or occasionally we can meet you at a dog show or event closer to your home. We can discuss other arrangements on a case by case basis.

We are not able to assign/place puppies with families until they are almost 8 weeks old, we strive to give you a choice with your puppy but this may not always be possible.

Please fill out the puppy inquiry if you are looking to add a new Wirehaired Vizsla puppy to your home!
